There has been only 24 hours of heavy rainfall in October this year and the amount of rainfall recorded between October 7 and 8 is equal to the total monthly rainfall figures, IMD scientists reiterated. Going by the current rainfall, experts exclaimed that total rainfall could reach 120-mm if the monsoon does not recede soon. Whereas, October this year has recorded 117.7 mm rainfall so far, which is the fourth highest rainfall for the month in the last 10 years. It was followed by 170.1 mm rainfall in October 2020 and 120.1 mm in October 2011. The city recorded the highest monthly October rainfall in the last decade (197.7 mm) in 2012. If reports are to be believed, the IMD said that in the last 10 years only four instances (including this year) have seen Mumbai receive more than 100 mm of rainfall in the month of October. Meanwhile, according to data shared by the IMD, Mumbai received more than 100 millimeters (mm) of rain between October 1 and October 11, which is quite unusual for this time of the year, said weather department (IMD) officials. Though, India Meteorological Department (IMD)’s airport observatory at Santacruz did not record any rainfall in the past 24 hours, but Colaba observed moderate showers measuring 19mm as on Wednesday, October 12.
